The surgery receives much feedback on frustrations in being able to get through first thing in the morning. The surgery has 3 receptionists answering phones from 8am in the morning to help patients. Please, if you do not want an appointment try and call after 10am when the lines are a little quieter. The surgery telephone system has been upgraded with a view to easing congestion by notifying the caller where they are in the queue.

Some consultations can be carried out by a doctor or nurse over the telephone. The doctor or nurse will then advise on the best course of treatment - If the Doctor or Nurse decides the patient’s problem needs to be seen with face to face they will book an appointment. All appointments are of 10 minute duration.
Face to Face Consultation – on the day and pre bookable
A selection of face to face appointments are available at a variety of times across the week. Subject to availability these can also be booked on line with either a nurse or doctor. Please register for patient access via our website to access online appointments

Our doctors typically see four patients in the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask our patients to come to the surgery if at all possible. However, we will visit you at home if your condition means you are unable to attend.
Please ring before 10.30am to request a visit and let the receptionist know if you feel it is urgent.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
For more information see the DirectGov website (where this information was sourced).
We teach medical and nursing students at the practice and occasionally have other students on work experience placements. You will always be informed if students are present with the doctor or nurse that you are seeing.
Please inform the receptionist if your personal choice is to see the doctor or nurse alone.
